Williams, who has previously used social media to showcase the strawberries she cultivated on her farm, sought advice from the 83-year-old on improving her gardening skills.
Stewart’s passion for gardening was instilled in her by her father. She is a regular contributor to cooking and gardening segments across various television networks, and she has also hosted her own gardening shows.
Serena Williams Asks Questions to Martha Stewart About Gardening
Williams and her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, reside in Florida, where they manage their own farm. The 23-time Grand Slam champion recently took to social media and asked Martha Stewart how she should grow her carrot crop, as they often turn out round, small, or misshapen.
“@marthastewart48 I’ve had a hard time growing carrots – they always come out of the ground small and misshapen – what am I doing wrong?” Serena Williams posted on Threads.
In response, Stewart offered tips on enhancing the soil before planting carrots, explaining how these adjustments could lead to a more successful harvest.
“You have to double-dig your soil — you take out the first shovel and put it over here,” Martha Stewart replied. “Then you have to really cultivate it really nicely and put your topsoil back in and then plant your carrots. A raised bed would solve the problem. When you raise your beds, you make them out of wood or brick or stone!”
Along With Serena Williams, Her Husband Alexis Ohanian Also Showed Off the Strawberries They Are Growing
Earlier this month, Serena Williams took to social media to share a video of the strawberries she had harvested from her farm. In the delightful video, she revealed her plans to brew tea using the leaves and to create a strawberry shortcake with the freshly picked fruit.
“Strawberries again, fresh strawberries! And I picked some leaves, some strawberry leaves, because I dehydrate these and make a tea out of them. All fresh from my farm, yummy, yummy. You know what? I’ll actually make a strawberry shortcake, delicious,” Serena Williams said in the video.

Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, also posted a picture of a strawberry that had grew on their property.
Williams and Ohanian first met in 2015 at the Cavalieri Hotel in Rome when she was in the city for the Italian Open. They became engaged in 2016 at the same hotel. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Olympia Ohanian, on September 1, 2017, and tied the knot on November 16, 2017, at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans. They had their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian, in August 2023.
